My Outlook on Henan Institute of Science and Technology

我眼中的河南科技学院

During my teaching period at Henan Institute of Science and Technology, I gained an understanding of its steady progress in campus development, teaching quality, and international academic exchange. The visit reflected the university’s commitment to cultivating high-level talent and promoting openness in education.

在河南科技学院期间，我切身感受到学校在校园建设、教学质量和国际学术交流等方面稳步发展。此次访问也让我深刻体会到，学校始终致力于培养高层次人才，并积极推动教育开放与国际合作。

I taught courses on speaking, reading, and U.S. culture to students from Major of  Data Science and Big Data (Sino-US Joint Program). This program has resulted from the efforts of the Henan Education Association for International Exchange (HEAIE).

访问期间，我为数据科学与大数据专业（中美合作办学）学生讲授英语口语、阅读及美国文化等课程。该交流项目的顺利开展，凝聚了河南省教育国际交流协会的不懈努力。

Henan Institute of Science and Technology (HIST) has an expansive well-planned and attractively landscaped campus. I particularly admired the green spaces, tree-lined streets, and modern teaching facilities, which are organically integrated, creating a harmonious and orderly academic environment. The beautiful and functional campus not only enhances the overall image of HIST but also provides strong support for teaching, research, and student development. I enjoyed walking from building to building for my classes on the main campus and on the east campus.

河南科技学院校园开阔，规划有序，环境优美。绿地、林荫道与现代化教学设施相映成趣，自然融合，营造出和谐、富有秩序的学术氛围。这样一座美观而实用的校园，不仅提升了学校的整体形象，也为教学科研和学生成长提供了有力支撑。在东校区和西校区之间往返授课时，我十分享受穿行于各教学楼之间的时光。

I found the teaching experience both productive and inspiring. Most students had a solid foundation in English, though their writing skills were stronger than their speaking skills. They participated enthusiastically in discussions, especially on intercultural topics. In each class, a few students willingly helped interpret between English and Mandarin when I faced language barriers or needed to clarify specific instructions. I was also struck by their punctuality and exceptional respect in class.

我的教学经历充实而富有启发。大多数学生具备较为扎实的英语基础，相较而言，他们的英语写作能力强于口语表达能力。课堂上，学生们积极参与讨论，尤其对跨文化话题表现出浓厚兴趣。每节课中，总有几位学生主动协助我在英语和普通话之间进行解释与沟通，帮助我克服语言障碍，明确课堂要求。学生们遵纪守纪、尊师重教的表现也给我留下了格外深刻的印象。

Faculty and staff members showed a high level of professionalism and cooperation. Faculty colleagues actively participated in the instruction at the beginning and at the end by reinforcing important concepts in Mandarin. Administrative and support staff provided efficient and thoughtful services throughout the visit, ensuring the smooth organization of teaching activities.

学校的教师和工作人员展现出高度的专业素养与协作精神。授课开始和结束时，相关教师会主动参与其中，用普通话对重要知识点进行补充和强化。行政及服务保障人员在整个访问期间也提供了高效、周到的支持，确保各项教学活动顺利有序开展。

I was impressed by the presence of faculty members from other countries, including Britain, Cameroon, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Ukraine. HIST’s academic leadership, through this visitation program, demonstrated clear support for international cooperation. By encouraging a visiting scholar program and cross-cultural academic exchange, the leadership seems to be expanding the university’s international engagement and academic influence, laying a solid foundation for further cooperation.

我还注意到，学校拥有来自英国、喀麦隆、尼日利亚、巴基斯坦、乌克兰等多个国家的教师。此次访问项目充分体现了河南科技学院领导层对国际合作的明确支持。学校积极推动访问学者项目和跨文化学术交流，不断拓展国际合作空间，提升学术影响力，也为未来更深层次的交流合作奠定了坚实基础。

Mid-way through the visit, Dr. Zhang Qingshan, Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science, and Dr. Chengyu Xi, Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science, took me on a tour of the Plains Museum in the Hongqi District of Xinxiang City, Henan Province. The vast facility displays local and national histories, cultural relics, and archives. I also deeply appreciated the fact that, despite their busy daily schedules, these colleagues took me to lunch occasionally and helped bridge the cultural gap.

访问期间，计算机科学与技术学院副院长张清山博士和教师代表席澄宇博士陪同我参观了位于河南省新乡市红旗区的平原博物院。博物院规模宏大，陈列着地方与国家历史、文化遗存和档案资料。我也十分感谢这些同事在繁忙的工作之余，仍不时带我共进午餐，并帮助我跨越文化差异。

Mid-way through my visit, the staff of the Office of International Affairs of Henan University of Science and Technology organized a variety of exchange activities. I was pleased to meet international students on campus and at local shopping malls. The students readily identified with me as a fellow international. Mrs. Bibi, a faculty member of Cameroonian nationality, repeatedly invited me to lunch at her home with several of the international students.

访问期间，国际交流处工作人员组织丰富多彩的交流活动。我很高兴能在校园和当地商场中结识很多国际学生。他们很自然地把我视作同样身处异国文化环境中的同行者。来自喀麦隆的教师Bibi女士也多次邀请我与几位国际学生一同到她家中共进午餐，这份热情令我倍感温暖。

Overall, I think the Henan Institute of Science and Technology looks dynamic and progressive. Through the coordinated development of a high-quality campus environment and a supportive academic culture, I feel that HIST has established a strong platform for education, research, and international collaboration. The visit left a deep and positive impression on me and highlighted the university’s promising prospects for continued high-quality programming with foreign partner institutions. I look forward to another visit.

总体而言，河南科技学院是一所充满活力、锐意进取的大学。学校通过优质校园环境与支持性学术文化的协同建设，为教育教学、科学研究和国际合作搭建起坚实的平台。此次访问给我留下了深刻而美好的印象，也让我看到了学校与国外合作院校持续开展高质量国际合作项目的广阔前景。我期待未来能够再次到访。
